What is a sponge?

I'm experimenting with canvas as a teacher this year and I'm wondering what the "sponge" role is when adding people to a classroom.

I would ask the local Canvas Admin at your institution this question. "sponge" is not one of the default Canvas roles, it has been created at the local level.

As a fellow CCSD teacher I got this info today.

In CCSD a Sponge user is has the same privileges as a teacher, but cannot make any changes. This way someone can copy your course content but can't change it. Great way for PLCs to work together but still lets you customize your course.

Do 'sponge' users see ALL students in the course? Looking for the safest way for helpers to use courses. I have had TAs delete items or reveal students that they should not 'observe'. Very stressful when you are the teacher responsible for everything...
