As you think about what to pack, you may want to queue up the official INSTcon25 Spotify playlist for vibes. Also, take a gander out how to make the most of your INSTcon25 experience in Spokane.
When first attending professional conferences, my first instinct was "new fit!" Obviously, you want to look good while representing yourself and your institution well. And, if you need an excuse to shop for "treat yo'self" clothes, feel free. Yet, INSTcon is special - the mood is come as you are.
One thing to consider is that while most activities are indoors, historically (same week last year) the weather in Spokane was 😎 dry and in the 90s°F ☀️. [see comments for updated forecast]
Before you venture into the wilds of Spokane, WA... where pine-scented air meets pedagogical innovation - here’s your ultimate guide to packing like a pro.
Comfortable Shoes Are a Must!
You’ll be on your feet a lot—moving between sessions, booths, and social events (or perhaps chase Bigfoot during your downtime). Athletic or well-cushioned shoes are recommended.
Dress Code: Casual
Unlike other professional conferences, InstructureCon is known for its "come-as-you-are," fun vibe. Rock your jeans, sneakers, and Canvas t-shirts. A lightweight jacket or cardigan, in case you get a little chilly from the amazing AC.
Instructure or School Shirts? So fetch!
This is the perfect time to show off your Canvas spirit or your institution’s swag. It’s a great conversation starter, too.
Activewear - You Might Need to Outrun a Yeti
Pack comfortable workout clothes and shoes if you’re planning to participate in the morning 5K or yoga sessions. It’s a great way to start the day and connect with fellow attendees. Consider sunscreen and sunglasses.
Mobile Phone, Battery Pack and Extra Device Chargers
You’ll likely be using your phone, tablet, and maybe a laptop more than usual—especially for networking, social media, and the event app. When you're on the move between sessions, lunch, and the expo hall, a portable charger is crucial when the day is long and sightings get real.
Business Cards or Digital Contact Sharing Tool
Even if you do get beamed up, leave a digital breadcrumb trail. Whether it’s QR codes, a digital contact card app, or printed business cards -- bring something to help you share your info quickly.
Load the Event App Before You Arrive
The "Instructure Events" app is your all-in-one hub for the agenda, venue maps, session materials, and updates. Having it downloaded ahead of time saves stress. Also, check out "Agent M's dossier."
Misc. - some are optional
Toiletries, medicines/painkillers, lozenges/hard candy, gum/breath mints, hand sanitizer, small first aid kit, fidget toy, face mask (better to bring one just in case - some events are outdoors & air quality might become a concern to some)
Extra Space for Swag
Swag happens! Leave some room in your luggage for the free merch you’ll pick up—from stickers, shirts, or surprise giveaways.
InstructureCon 2025 (hashtag INSTcon25) promises to be an inspiring, energizing experience. With a little prep, you’ll be fully equipped to learn, connect, and enjoy everything Canvas & the Instructure community have to offer! See you in Spokane...
When registering I was asked what t-shirt size I wear so I assume we are getting a t-shirt with the 'swag'. As such I can pack at least one less shirt - ok may be two less as I'll probably want a Spokane souvenir. For example, I found a nifty regional clothing shop within walking distance: The Great PNW.
Thanks for sharing about The Great PNW. Saw some cool things through the Google Maps photos; might have to stop there myself.
