This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 11/20/24.
When a user has an auto-response message set up, only the first user to send them a message gets the auto response. Subsequent users who send a message will not receive anything in response.
Anyone who sends a message to the user with an auto-response during the timeframe selected should receive an auto-response message.
No workaround exists at this time.
Prerequisite: Have auto-responses enabled on the account, have a teacher enrolled in a published course and 2 students enrolled in the same course.
As a teacher, set up an auto response that is current and active
As a student, go to the inbox and send the teacher a message.
Note that after a few minutes an auto-response is received.
As a second student, go to the inbox and send a message to the same teacher.
Note that no response was received.
