Can New Quizzes Show the Number of Students on a Particular Assignment

When you first navigate to a classic quiz as an instructor, if you have only assigned something to a subset of the class, it would show something like the attached file. Basically, it would show how many students were assigned to something at a particular time, which is especially helpful when you have different assignments for different groups of students within a class.

I cannot find such a function within new quizzes. Does it exist?

Just a note, this is a situation where creating various sections for a course will not work because these groups of students will change throughout the semester. This is also not a group assignment. Essentially, I have to assign different versions of something to certain chunks of students based on when they can take a quiz/test.

Just as an update, I found a workaround by going into speedgrader, but that is slower and clunkier. I wish there was a single home/edit page for each assignment like there used to be in classic quizzes. It just makes no sense to have to jump around to 5 different places to edit or check things on a quiz. If I can avoid it, I will not be using new quizzes for the forseeable future. I know Instructure says they are listening, but new quizzes are just bad and I get mad every time I am forced to use them.

@mclontz, as you indicate, that particular table is part of Classic Quizzes.

From the core Canvas perspective, a New Quiz is an external tool. Who is assigned something is controlled from the "Assign" block. Normally, that's done from the Assignment page. It's just that Classic Quizzes don't have a normal assignment page -- but it does have the assign block at the bottom.

Part of what Canvas was hoping to do with New Quizzes was to make it more of a traditional assignment than a quiz in the way it was handled. The New Quizzes doesn't have any extra information about who is supposed to take it because that's associated with the assignment, not with the quiz. That list likely won't be added to New Quizzes because it has nothing to do with New Quizzes.

What @james_whalley suggests will get you better information, just not in as succinct fashion. You also don't need to add /edit to the end of the assignment, you can get there by clicking. From my Quizzes page, I click on New Quiz and the assign block is at the bottom just like it is for other assignments. That same thing happens if I click on it from my Modules page or from the Assignments page. I'm not sure where the five clicks are coming in.

The assignments page actually tells you who the students are, rather than there just being 1 of them. At one time, I wrote code that would do look up the student names and let you see them, but I think Canvas has changed a lot since then I'm pretty sure it doesn't work anymore.

On the other hand, I try to avoid New Quizzes with a passion, only looking at them when someone has a question. I might be missing something.

I see what you mean. I just went in to take a look at this and found that it wasn't as simple as with classic Quizzes or Assignments. I did find that you can add /edit onto the end of the new quiz url to get to the Canvas Assignments setting part and see to whom the quiz is assigned. 

You may want to check out the Ideas and Themes area of the community to see if this idea has been shared before. If not, I would share it, as it makes a ton of sense and seems to be lost functionality from classic Quizzes.
