Speedgrader Access with New Quizzes when Course/Term Date met for Students

Today we noticed that faculty could not update grades for a New Quiz once the term date had passed even though the access dates for the teacher role have not yet passed.  Faculty can still approve questions, but the final grade will not update to the gradebook.  They can not manually enter the grade in Speedgrader either. This is a problem when a final exam that includes open-ended questions is given on the last day of the term.  Faculty have no turn-around time to finish grading.  Is this expected behavior or a bug? Will this issue be fixed with further development of the New Quizzes tool? Anyone have a solution other than reopening the course via course dates?  Even when you do update course dates, you have to go back into the quiz to reapprove at least one question to activate the ability to update grades. Not ideal. Classic quizzes doesn't cause this issue.
