Is there a way to easily edit (cut, trim, etc) a video in Studio that has either already been processed and saved in "My Uploads" or that has been uploaded from my desktop?
Solved! Go to Solution.

Easy? No. Possible, yes...but it's a bit complicated. The basic interface of Studio (formerly Arc) does not allow for video editing at all. You can upload videos to your Studio account, embed them in courses, get insights from those discussions, etc., but there are no editing tools using those basic controls.
However, if you were to do a screen capture, you could to this...but it's going to take a bit of time on your end.
When you are finished making your edits, then this video will be converted back to your Studio interface. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you need to come back to this video and make additional edits later on, it's a clunky process...and I had created a Feature Idea about it here: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/12450" modifiedtitle="true" title="Quicker Way to Access Scree.... Unfortunately, it didn't get much interest by Community members, and so it got moved to Cold Storage.
If you have access to video editing software such as Adobe Premiere, that might be the better way for you to go.
Since more instructors are creating videos this year than ever before and want to avoid a download/upload to fix a video, I wonder if there would be more interest in the feature idea?
Hello @nnelson23 !
I think the Studio has no this feature, but you could upload it to Youtube and put the video on Studio through the URL, then you can make the edits on Youtube and it will reflect on Studio.

I lose the audio of my original video when bringing it to a screen recording for editing. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Am I doing something wrong?
There was one setting missed by nnelson23. In order for Studio to capture the audio from your existing video, you need to turn off your mic and record system sounds. If you do that, you will get the audio from your original video. However, I'd suggest just downloading the video and using another editing software to edit the downloaded version. There are quite a few out there that are free. Lightworks is brilliant, does a ton of fantastic things, but has a steep learning curve. OpenShot does less, but it does it with a shallow learning curve. For many, I think, OpenShot will be just enough.
Thanks this work-around worked for me!
This was great! Thank you so much.
Thanks for advice! I think the best way to edit and create compelling videos is to use a professional service like wave.video/tools/video-marketing/instagram which I've known for quite some time. Usually, I use this tool to promote my Instagram accounts, which gives me the opportunity to create high-quality video content and attract traffic.

I tried to insert an existing video and am getting this error message, "Sorry, we can't write to this directory." I downloaded the existing studio video, then uploaded it as an mp4 file while editing a new video, which is when the error message pops up. Any ideas?
I'm having the same issue. I followed the instructions for uploading my existing video, and the audio is nonexistent. There must be an easier way.
If you have a Screencast-o-Matic account you can download the video from Studio and then upload it into Screencast-O-Matic and use their editing features. Then download and upload back to Studio. Worked for me. Note: I do have their lowest level pay plan (about $20/year) and that probably makes a difference.
