We've got some fantastic news to share – we've just finished a brand new video resource that provides an overview of the Discussion Redesign in Canvas!

In this short but informative video, we'll walk you through all the exciting changes and highlight the new features that come with the Discussion Redesign. Whether you're a teacher, student, or admin, this overview will help you navigate and make the most of the redesigned experience.

We hope this video provides a better understanding of what the Discussion Redesign is and what changes to expect with the enforcement on July 20, 2024. More information on the Discussion Redesign can be found in the feature user group. Users can also check out our two-page overview which can be accessed here

Happy watching!

Since the videos moved from Vimeo to wherever they are now: How can we embed them into our individual Canvas pages? The video above doesn't have any of the requisite info. It's making it tough to get info like this out to the people we train.

Hi all, for a shareable resource, try this and let me know if it works for you:

Hi all, the video has been updated to include captions. Thanks for your patience with this!

Thanks so much for the embed code and adding captions. Since I like to always model what I expect from faculty in their courses, I can't include a video in my resource hub unless it's accessible.

@SamGarza1  So, we received the notification that there is a new Discussion/Announcements update coming in July 20, 2024. I have viewed all the information about Discussions but have not seen what is actually changing in Announcements. Is there White Paper on that?

@DonaldHansen Until Sam can answer you, you might find this information useful:

The word "here" should never be used as a link, as seen in the last sentence on this page. It is non-descriptive and does not follow accessibility standards.

@SamGarza1 Will this video be updated before or after 07/20 to remove/cut segment 0:30-0:40 since users will not have to enable the setting as a feature preview?

My volume is all the way up, but I can't really hear what is being said. Closed captioning and increasing the volume would help.

I don't see captions yet, but I will check again. The narration is too fast and unclear, making it really hard to hear and understand. (Not everyone is up on all the jargon: beta what?)

Hi @KellySamuels @RaelynnPtrsn,  when you play the embedded video, you can turn the captions on as seen in the screengrab below. Hopefully that helps! Thanks as always for the feedback and for watching.

Is the multiple due dates features still on the roadmap for the future?  I see that there is a "manage due dates" option in the new discussions but that is not at all what most people meant when they said "multiple due dates".  What we need is to have multiple due dates for the SAME student for a post and a reply.  The goal of discussions is not to have different people talking at different times but to have students talking back and forth to each other.

Honestly, I am wholly dissatisfied with key aspects of your updates to the Discussion Board and have been in dialogue with my OIT staff to that end. In the past, since students have to post before they can read, and, then they have to comment on their peers as well, when I went in I could quickly and easily look through the stack of responses. Now, it is unclear what has been viewed and not. My labor has increased exponentially, as well as my ability to be agile and nimble with my students during their reading, review and critique online so that prior to coming into class they receive some feedback from me. I TRULY WISH THAT Y'ALL HAD NOT COLLAPSED THE REPLY FUNCTION AND CRAFTED THIS TO ME UNSAVORY SET UP. VERY DISGRUNTLED AND NOT WANTING EXTRA LABOR.
