James, I'm sorry that this change in feature caught you by surprise, because this is one of the differences between classic and new quizzes. While I don't have a solution for you yet to easily update the grades (but I'll try to replicate your situation in the next few days), I wanted to at least share my perspective on the advantages of being able to set the number of points differently in the "settings" then the points within the actual assessment. Several individuals at my institution use chapter reading quizzes, including myself. In the past, to make each reading quiz worth the same (e.g. 10 points), instructors had to modify points to fit this max points, regardless if they had 10, 12, 15, 20, etc. questions. With New Quizzes, the two are distinct - so when designing the assessment each question can have the desired point value and the number of questions, let's say even 13 can be provided without a lot of concern. Then in the "settings" of the New Quizzes assignment, the maximum point value can be set based on the grading scheme of the course. It is a change in behavior from classic quizzes, but I have already seen the positive benefits at our institution. With that said, when faculty move to New Quizzes we emphasize this as part of the differences. I hope to try and get back soon on a method that might help update the grades to be out of 36. - Melissa

With New Quizzes where you build the Item Banks is not as important as who builds the item banks. So you can build the item banks in either the development course or in the active course. Item banks are now stored at a higher organizational level and are therefore not associated with a specific course (at least from my experience so far testing). Instead, you want to make sure that the owner of the test bank has permissions. For example, as an Instructional Designer, I can build the testbanks for a faculty member. But then I must go and share the questions and item banks with that faculty member so it is easy for them to locate and find the item banks. I hope this helps. - Melissa

Our institution is also aware of surveys not being a part of New Quizzes. However, we have two other options at the institution for faculty to do surveys, Qualtrics and Office365 Forms. So far, faculty who have elected to use Qualtrics or Office365 forms have put a link to the surveys in their course. They don't have the benefit of having an automatic due date appear in the To Do list. Workarounds that we have seen are faculty creating a calendar item with the link to the survey and having individuals setup a page with a description and link to the survey (then the to do date is applied). I'll be curious as to what others are doing as well. - Melissa

@kroeninm In our production, we currently see the first feature flag New Quizzes Migration During Course Import/Copy. However, we have it turned off due to the last test we tested the migration during course import/copy it was not equivalent to our testing in production. We will return to this after our semester gets started.

The problem has been fixed, but it does require you to go back to your Matching questions in the Item Bank and edit them. You don't have to modify any existing assessment, just the Matching question itself. Once you edit the question in the Item Bank, you will see a message stating "Some students have already submitted answers for this item! You can apply your edits to a copy of this item which will only be seen by students that have not taken the assessment." Some students have already submitted answers for this item! Please note: I never saw a duplicate of the question in my Item Bank, so the concept of a "copy" didn't really occur visually to me. I believe it was just handled in the background of the system. Once I edit the Matching question, I look for the Grading option and select Partial credit and the click Done to save the changes. This method worked for me and I hope it works for you as well.

Is this at the course level or account/sub-account level? In our instance we have the feature option off at the account level but unlocked. This allows the faculty to decide in their own courses whether to turn on the feature or not.

Jay, While we don't have a template, our institution has used a product called Respondus that allows us to convert Word documents into assessments in Classic Quizzes. We know that Respondus will offer the same capabilities for New Quizzes once the development finalizes. Melissa

To add to this conversation, we also need the Rich Content Editor to be included with the Fill in the Blank question area to be able to adjust spacing. We have noticed that this question type is treating everything as a single "paragraph" versus the ability to create line breaks. Example from Classic Quizzes, clearly shows which Fill in the Blank is associated with which statement. However, the same question in New Quizzes is much more unclear to the student due to the line spacing.

@ctr_amachsonca - Great question and based on a meeting today with one of our academic units, we are also interested in the Results Student View settings to control be dates or immediately after a student takes the assessment the ability to limit result visibility to students.

At Salisbury University, we are looking to customize our enrollment page. Two issues to address: The ability to change the wording of "Already have an account?" - we want to rephrase that to "Already have a SU or SUCCEED account?" Our second issue is being reported by our Center of International Education who is trying to use Catalog with our English Language Institute and their international audience. We are getting reports that individuals in China are unable to enroll because they receive a message stating "Captcha required to submit" instead of the Captcha options. Has anyone else encountered this issue? I'm looking forward to hearing the experiences of others.

@Katrina-Hess To give additional context, the year 2020 has brought up so many topics that require deep dives and expressions - such as racial injustice; COVID policies, effect on economy, healthcare; environmental issues; diversity and inclusion; etc. We have interest similar to @vnieders from faculty in Psychology, Environmental Science, Health and Human Performance to name just a few. The ability to have anonymous discussions or even the ability to allow students assign a pen name or pseudonym when participating in discussion (which was another request from an English faculty member) would be wonderful and if there is another opportunity to vote up this request - I'm sure you were receive several "up" votes from our institution alone.

As we are just beginning our planning to introduce New Quizzes, the Build button or even Create/Edit will be useful to distinguish that the tool will be going to the area where faculty will create and moderate the exam. We are just about to introduce New Quizzes as an upcoming change for next summer, the April/May timeframe to release this will work for our institution. @DL1919___ make a great point about there is nothing to stop someone from creating a assessment without actually building the quiz - but I believe that is the same for classic quizzes as well.

I wanted to see if anyone in the Canvas Community is also experiencing problems with Cloud Recordings not appearing in the Zoom Integration under Cloud Recordings. This change in behavior started on October 21, 2020 at our institution where faculty reported receiving their email that the cloud recordings was available, went into their Canvas course, select Zoom from their course menu and then went to the Cloud Recordings tab. However, the Zoom meeting was not visible to the faculty member for them to Publish and share with their students. The recordings do appear in the faculty's recording list at our institutions Zoom site salisbury.zoom.us. We have a help request open with Zoom, but I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this change in behavior with the integration.

Thank you so much for requesting feedback @zsgoreczky. My institutions just used Catalog over the summer to help with faculty development (219+ faculty working with a staff of 3-5) to prepare for the Fall 2020 semester. Based on our recent experiences, I would rank these improvements in the following order: Login workflow improvement 1: Absolutely the number 1 priority from our perspective and major pain point for our institution. We had so many faculty not read our directions or view our video about how to Login prior to enrolling in the courses/certificate program. Instead, they just went to our Catalog site but the the small "Already have an account?" was missed by so many because it is very generic that faculty didn't make the association between Canvas and Catalog. Login workflow improvement 2: Anything to help improve navigation would be beneficial as we grow our offerings. Search improvement: As @jsowalsk stated please and associate the tags for each listing regardless of whether it is in the root catalog. We need to include the tags from all listings including the subcatalogs. Consistent time-zones: Time zone support and consistency will be important to us as we expand our offerings for various programs which we know will be taken across various time zones. Concluded courses: At this time, this would be our least important feature.

We have a unique situation were our Chemistry department is trying to coordinate make-up labs for multiple sections in the Scheduler (Appointment Groups) feature of the calendar. We have everything setup so that 8 students across any of those sections can sign-up for the make-up lab time. However, once multiple students sign-up, the instructor cannot tell which sections each student is associated. They need this information in order to communicate between the instructors covering the make-up sessions and the primary instructor in which that student is enrolled. Any thoughts on this and/or even other tools to explore would be greatly appreciated.

I'm still growing with our support of Catalog and have a Catalog Administrator training listing associated with a course that I have been modifying over the years. However, now I have a few individuals who have gone through the listing but are not receiving their certificate. Questions: Is there a way to confirm/vet that they have completed the requirements on their behalf? If the listing was setup for 30 days to complete and that time has expired, can you change their "section" to give them more time? Based on this experience, I'm thinking of shutting down this version of the course and creating a new course/listing for future individuals who need to go through the training. Love to hear from others based on their experiences.
