Historically, I have been able to either "Copy To," "Send To," and "Import Existing Content" new quizzes with images and have no difficulty. Even today, If I use these functions on archived quizzes with images, there is no issue transferring from one class to the next.
At my school, we are no longer able to do this. It was first documented on 9/25/23 within my team. The questions transfer without an issue. But images do not transfer from one course to the next without showing a broken link. Or, if I take an archived quiz and add a new image, the images not replaced transfer from one class to the next, but new images do not transfer. I have been working with the Learning and Information Technology coordinator at the district, and he is saying that we can't just "Copy To" anymore, and that we really should go through the "Import Existing Content" button. I have tried that in the last month with no change on whether or not links are broken. So, his additional information was that not only would we be selecting the quiz we wanted copied, we have to select the files as well for the images, which creates additional steps for something that wasn't previously that complicated.
If this is true, why do the archived new quizzes still transfer images without breaking links? Are you working on a solution for restoring the system where we can simply Copy To instead of Import Existing Content, which includes also finding the files for the images?
Thank you for your time.
When you say "archived" do you mean quizzes that existed in past courses?
I also have similar questions - although I can't seem to recreate the issues consistantly. I have quizzes from last year that I "Copy to" my current course. Images copied over fine - but I belive this is b/c the questions are also in an Item Bank? Are your questions in Item Banks?
Like you, I am trying to find a "work around" that is the least amount of work as we have teachers with DOZENS of quizzes. When I chatted with Canvas Help I was told that more than likey I would need to create a folder (drop box, google) where the images for questions could be shared and teachers would need to edit each question to replace the image broken links. SO much work - especially for those teachers who need to migrate from Classic to New.
Yes, Archived does refer to past courses.
I am unable to test last year's quizzes to this year's quizzes because I am not teaching the same courses and/or there were no pictures in the quizzes I am transferring over.
It is my new understanding from speaking with our Information/Technology department that "copy to" really isn't an option anymore. One must use "Import Existing Content" and import the media files over while also importing the quiz. New Quizzes is an LTI and because the Rich Content Editor was upgraded (their explanation to me), the images no longer transfer using 'copy to.'
You are not alone and we are trying to document the workflows of this problem at our institution as well - how the questions are being built in the Item banks, how the images are being added, and then the copy processes and why/when the images are not displaying to the student, even though the faculty can still see them in most cases.
My question would be, where is the best location to store images and add them to the item banks?
