I can't believe this idea didn't get more traction. The Module page is the only one that will show students their assignments and deadlines at the same time. It is logical that fully online courses would use it for a home page. Some kind of image at the top would anchor it as a class. Otherwise, it looks very bare.

Sadly, I have add-ons that I need to use with Firefox and it's the recommended browser of our IT department. Thanks for looking.

While using Canvas on Firefox, every time I click to download a file I get the popup "You have chosen to open:..." Each time I tell Firefox that it should automatically open the file with a specific program (my pdf reader for example). I've checked the settings in Firefox's Options and they are fine. However, I get this popup every time. Is this a Canvas or a Firefox issue? I don't have this problem in Chrome. It's one of those constant annoyances.

Four years later and we're still asking for this feature. Students should not have to click "View Feedback" and then resize a window to see how their work was received. You've created a robust feature in the annotation system. Why hide it? Students should see exactly what we see when we mark their papers - a full size view with easy to see comments. Canvas is so close to being an outstanding course shell. Please fix this problem. I agree with another poster who wrote that we don't want students focusing on the numeric. Feedback is where true teaching comes into play. To make it difficult to see sends the wrong message to students who are already obsessed with rubrics and grades.

I think many of us use the workaround suggested by Robert Winters. The problem is that we can't use the annotation system in Canvas.

I think there are many of us who can't understand why that under "Submission Details," "View Feedback" can't simply be on by default. You say it's not simple. Does it involve a major overhaul of the interface? Is this part of some major change you have in the works? We've been waiting years for this simple change while more obscure features seem to be implemented. Any information would lessen our frustration. As you know, feedback on papers is extremely important and it seems like Canvas is actively hiding that information despite having a robust annotation system.

This MUST be addressed. It makes the entire grading system a waste of time and shows how little programming attention is paid to humanities-based courses. Why should I or my TAs put time into annotating these pdf papers if students have to hunt for the feedback, click on the file, and then have to resize a window (for what purpose?!).

At the very least, the Crocodoc display should come up when they click on the icon under Grades. For the life of me, I can't imagine why that would take an additional click. Even then, it comes up in a smallish window. Why have such a robust feature if you're going to hide it? The rubric is a rudimentary summary that doesn't come close to the details provided in Crocodoc. If you have to walk students through a lengthy process of finding feedback, it 's a serious problem.

Some may not have use for this feature but let's not try to sour development on it. Certainly, you don't have to use this ability. I think we can agree that many of us teach very different courses with very different requirements. I have a large group of students who live outside the campus area who have to submit specific assignments at different times than their peers. If they post their paper under Comments, I can't use Crocodoc and the rubric I've set up. This feature would allow me to do that as well as cover students with a host of excuses that I'm mandated to accept at my university.

This idea has been developed and deployed to Canvas I have a very large class along with an ever-increasing number who need additional time mandated by accommodation letters. Allowing me to search for a specific student instead of clicking around to find the right screen would be a great time saver. Great post. This is my number one complaint with Canvas. Students must have a single clearing house for feedback and it must be under Grades. There is already too much visual noise on the pages.

I'm aware of the feature but I like a hard deadline. I don't want to go through the trouble of grading late work unless there is a legitimate reason that I've approved. I want time management to be something they have to consider. Also, it's time consuming to grade late work because it's usually last minute and half assed.

If I could only have one new feature implemented in Canvas, it would be this one. My single biggest hassle teaching online courses is students who have to give me late work for whatever reason and I have no way to put it into the system. Nothing else comes close. Attaching through comments is cumbersome and doesn't allow us to use the annotation features. I don't want to have to switch from Canvas to Adobe. Please implement this feature.
