Bio:
Vernon J. Martin received his M.A. in Philosophy from University of North Texas and his B.A in Philosophy from U.C. Santa Cruz. He is currently the Chair of the Philosophy and Humanities Department at Sierra College in Rocklin, California. In addition to having taught philosophy and humanities courses online since 2005, Vernon has worked as a consultant to American Public University as a course developer and instructional design specialist. As a consultant Vernon designed two of AMUs core GE courses: Philosophy 101 and Religious Studies 201. At Sierra College, he is was part of the LMS transition team of faculty trainers that helped the college switch from Blackboard to Canvas over the Winter break of 2012-2013. As a full-time faculty member at the Sierra College, he is co-deputy Accreditation Liaison Officer, co-chair of the Educational Effectiveness committee, and a member of the Distance Learning Instructional Technology committee. At the state level, Vernon does work for the Online Education Initiative and the Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative. He is a team member with @One and facilitates Intro to Teaching with Canvas courses for CCC staff, faculty and administrators.
