if you are familiar with how the format is for making multiple fill in blanks in canvas. I usually just use excel and following the formatting for canvas in a cell then copy and paste the table into canvas.

Canvas needs to have a easy way to print Quizzes for handouts and students who do not have internet access.

Scott, Before the update went out the other week, students who went to submit their assignment had a google doc tab (as long as they had their google account tied to their canvas account). This worked great because I have students from 7 different schools in my classroom and they could link their sending school's google account and this made it very easy to submit files from google across different school districts. I may try the url idea. I messed around with the google drive file but I can't get the google drive to appear under the external tool . I can see my google drive on the left. I will keep trying. It is just unfortunate, this was a great tool and it was removed at a time when many schools are going online. We are currently looking at different LMS systems and this feature was a big selling point and I may need revisit my recommendations on canvas. Thanks for the information.

I recently created a assignment which requires a file upload from the students. Now the problem my student no longer see the google doc icon when they go to submit the answer. They have selected more options, and upload from computer. Also i am using the free for teachers edition. Any ideas???

In this example the class has 10 assignments each 10 percent of the grade and a pre-post assessment group worth 0 percent. If you wanted to go one step further you could have the pre and post as separate groups.

I believe as long as you don't have the pre and post test set to any weight that there will be no affect the student's score. You will see the grades in the grade book but it will not be apart of their score. I do this with my students every year. They take a pre-test at the begining of the course and a post-test at the end. I set the weight to zero. The students see the grades foo the assignments but the assessments don't count in their grade calculation.

Stephanie, There shouldn't be any issues with setting up grading periods now. I would just watch your due dates and available until dates of the assignments. I believe if a instructor must specify a due dates in order for it to appear in the correct grading period.

Caroline, I have used this way to sign students up for the classes and I give them a sheet of paper with directions for creating user names, passwords, etc. I usually make it a assignment grade. Those students who follow my directions receive full credit, those who don't I remove their user name from the course and they must try again. I then reduce their grade on the assignment. John

There is a code you can give the students to self -enroll to do this you follow the following steps: 1. Select settings on the left hand side 2.Under course details scroll down and select more options 3.Select Let students self-enroll by sharing with them a secret URL or code 4.Select update course details. 5. After this at the bottom of the course details there will a URL and a course join code 6. a. give the url to the students to join the class b. have students go to http://canvas.instructure.com select need canvas account top right hand corner then i am a student. Have the students register with the code. Hope this helps

My idea is for the cursor insertion bar be placed in the answer field by default once the user navigates there from a preceding question. I think that the insertion point after the last character of the existing text would be the most logical option when the user navigates back to a question and some of the answer text already exists.

James, Sorry for the confusion I am referring to the cursor that appears in the text while typing when students are answering fill in the blank, multiple fill in the blank, numeric answer questions, and formula questions. I am currently only using the free for teachers edition of canvas so i don't believe the JavaScript option is feasible.

I can see you point on the idea of accidentally pressing the enter key especially if you select show one question at a time and lock after answering. Maybe having a option for teachers to select when setting up the assignment, or even prompt the student with another dialog box asking if they wish to move onto the next section by pressing enter a second time. Many of my students use devices that only have the mouse pad for movement and they find it very cumbersome to always having to select next to continue the assignment.

Currently when a student is finishes answering a question they must select next question or submit answer button to move onto the next question or end the assignment. Many of my students would like to enter a answer and be able to press enter key to move to the next question.quizzes.next_new‌

This idea has been developed and is On Canvas Beta • How do I access the Canvas beta environment? For more information, please read through the Canvas Release Notes (2023-04-15). When a instructor selects show one question at a time option the cursor should automatically appear in the answer section of the question. Currently when a student moves from one question to another they must move the cursor into the answer area. #quizzes.next_new

It would be a wonderful addition to allow multiple numerical blank questions. Essentially take the numerical answer question and cross it with the fill in multiple blanks type of question. Many instructors have questions that contain multiple parts.
