Problem statement:
Currently, the dashboard seems to automatically sort all courses (published and unpublished) alphabetically on the dashboard when a teacher is not utilizing the favorite tags. It appears that in some cases, courses in future terms are being prioritized over courses that are active in the current term. When our registrar creates courses for upcoming terms, we've had many teachers suddenly frantic over disappearing courses. While teachers can utilize the favorite option, this does cause issues when the forget to unfavorite courses and don't realize that the new empty courses are ready to be utilized for an upcoming semester.
Proposed solution:
I suggest that the default dashboard should prioritize PUBLISHED courses in ACTIVE terms first, always displaying those, and then show the remaining (20?) in whatever order seems best.

Problem statement:
We have a lot of "Admin" roles on our campus that are not full system admins. (i.e. Program Designers, Deans, Support Services, Directors, Chairs of Depts.. etc...) All of these admins have the ability to opt-in (or out) of system reports which include things like Admin roles assigned or changes made. These admins don't even have the ability to make such changes and therefore I don't believe that some of these users should even have that option to see them either.
Proposed solution:
I'm asking that there be a permission in the Admin Permissions that enables the ability to view these types of system notifications or receive them via email. i.e. If you do not have the ability to create or manage Admins, you should not see the report that new ones have been crated. Other examples would include (but are not limited to: New Admins created, New Roles Created, Changes to System Settings, etc...) as they have no business seeing them. In general, I believe these should only be viewable by the Full Canvas Administrator team.

Is there any way to use rubrics that are already created within Canvas and assign them at the account level? When I am listed as the faculty on a course I've found that I can reuse rubrics by simply using the Find Rubric feature. I was hoping that at the Account Level Admin I could use the Find rubric feature to make those rubrics available to the entire account/subaccount. Slightly related, I haven't been able to find a clean way to export the rubrics and also import rubrics so that I could take a rubric I've already created and import it as an Account Level Rubric. Does anyone have any ideas other than just doing them all from scratch again? Thanks!

I would also really love to see the use of wildcards in the search. We have a lot of courses that are offered during the same term that are identical but have something in the section number or appended to the end to indicate that it is online. It would be great to do EDU--601 * 21 or EDU-- * 11 to see all the courses that have the section 21 vs 11 or find EDU * O to show all the online courses.

Yeah, to be clear... Canvas isn't the problem on adding more "parent" categories. We are limited by the student information system which creates all these accounts within the integration because they have a relatively flat organization there (which I also can't change). I can definitely make more, but it wouldn't sync with our integration setup so I'm looking for other options to do this with the permissions. I was hoping that the Schools account (without permissions to see courses) would actually recognize that they have permission in some of the subaccount and pass them "up" the hierarchy.

Greetings, Due to some SIS limitations, our current school has a relatively flat SubAccount structure:
School
EDU
BML
ADC
ETC....
I'm adding a permission such as (EDU/BML admin) but due to our limitation I can't give them their own parent folder. If I add that permission to both accounts, then the user has to go and run reports on each account separately. I was hoping to find a way to let them see them grouped together (i.e. if I gave them access at the Schools level, but it would only list courses in the subaccount they have access to below it). My first attempt was to create a Schools permission that had no rights. (This caused the Schools level to appear in their admin screen)... and then give them permission to view course list at the EDU and the BML subaccounts. The problem is that when they would access the SChools subaccount course list, it showed all courses in Schools (even those for subaccounts they don't have access to and I didn't give the account any permissions at the school level).
Does anyone have any advice? I wish I could add another level in the hierarchy, but that option isn't available. Basically, I want someone to be able to click on the Schools and see only the list of courses in the subaccounts that they actually have access to.

Greetings everyone! Our campus is migrating to Canvas for the upcoming semester and I'm working on some of the different ways to layout a course. My question is specific to modules and pages. I have seen course modules that become extremely cluttered with all of the resources, links, files, etc... that are added for students to use as they complete a week. Our practice is usually to have a "Steps to Completion" page that outlines what the students should be doing as the week progresses. My questions:
Is it best to keep the resources confined as links on a such a page instead of having them out on the module section separately?
Do the documents and files uploaded directly to a page like this need to be manually published?
Are these things easy to access via a mobile device?
Is there a better alternative? (e.g. adding all of them as links on the module but simply linking them as course links in the Steps to Completion).
Our primary concern is avoiding what we like to refer to as the Scroll-Wheel of Death. I'm wondering if there has ever been any talk of creating a specific type of page to handle all of the links, documents, etc...

I'm going to upvote this one. I'm wondering if there is a way to target just the Text Header <div> in the CSS stylesheet? I just want to help separate a large module visually as well as textually.
