Problem statement: In New Quizzes Reports there are numerous metrics that require knowledge of statistical analysis. Metrics such as RPB (Point-Biserial Correlation Coefficient) and Cronbach’s Alpha are not common knowledge. Proposed solution: We have found that our faculty are interested in the findings of New Quizzes reports, but are unfamiliar with some of the terms. The use of acronyms and formulas requires further description. These descriptions can be found by reviewing Canvas support documentation - https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-view-reports-for-a-quiz-in-New-Quizzes/ta-p/619. However, course administrators should be able to get brief descriptions or links to helpful resources (when necessary) from the user interface. We are recommending that Instructure add hover text with a description or links to details. Problem statement: New Quizzes Accommodations show “all course assessments” despite only applying to New Quizzes Proposed solution: The ability to apply accommodations across numerous assessments with a single update is a fantastic enhancement. However, the current application of this in New Quizzes creates additional uncertainty. When an accommodation is set up in a new quiz the message “These settings will be applied to all course assessments for this student.” is shared. This does not accurately reflect the application of this accommodation. In this case “course assessments” only means New Quizzes. The change does not apply to classic quizzes, discussions or assignments which are regularly referred to as assessments. Problem statement: It is difficult to identify users in the Item Bank sharing menu. When sharing Item Banks with a person who shares a name with someone else (John Doe and John Doe), it will only show names with no ID or unique identifier attached. The user does not know which person to select. This is a FERPA concern in addition to other concerns about incorrectly sharing course materials. Problem statement: When a quiz is built by adding individual questions from multiple item banks, instructors can not tell which questions were pulled from which bank. (NOTE if you use the “all or random” button to pull in questions, that group of questions will be labeled). Proposed solution: Indicate which item bank the individual question comes from within the build quiz function (like the group label).
