Hello,

I have various assignment groups with a weight assigned for each of these groups. The total weight of the group sums to 100%. Now under each group I have multiple assignments. Lets say I have a group named 'Quizzes' whose weight is 15% of the total grade, under this I have lets say three quizzes Quiz1, Quiz2 and Quiz3. How can I give a weight of 20% for Quiz1, and 40% each for Quiz2 & Quiz3?

Thank you

Naveen

Naveen, you should be able to accomplish this by adjusting the number of total points for each quiz. For example, if you arbitrarily decide that all three quizzes combined will be worth 100 points (as this makes the math simple), then Quiz1 will be worth 20 points, and Quiz2 and Quiz3 will be worth 40 points each. Putting the three quizzes in the assignment group with a weight of 15% of the total will ensure that each quiz contributes proportionately to the overall course grade.

Having said that, this is a bit easier said than done. Currently, there's no way to change the overall point contribution for the quiz itself, so you'll have to edit each question so that the total points of the quiz add up to what you need. This can be an awkward process, as you might wind up having to assign one question 2 points, one question 3 points, and so forth, just to make the total come out the way you'd like.

The alternative would be to leave the point totals on the quizzes as they are and place each quiz in its own assignment group. So, doing the math on this one, you'd have three new assignment groups: Quiz1 worth 3%, Quiz2 worth 6%, and Quiz3 worth 6%. The three quizzes combined would contribute 15% to the course grade.

Changing a point total on a quiz would be a handy feature indeed, and you might want to contribute your vote and feedback to this feature idea, currently open for voting: Assign a Total Quiz Value and Automatically Distribute the Points to Questions
