I need to determine where I can change settings so we can restrict students from contacting other students in the class on canvas. While one student in particular is of concern, I would prefer to remove all capabilities from students using inbox to contact other students.  Thanks!

Hi,  @gisteacher ‌, this cannot be done at the Instructor (course) level. A Canvas admin can turn off the ability for students to message each other—but that setting would prevail for the entire account. If you are an instructor then you would want to talk with your local Canvas admin about enabling this functionality.

Hi - I realize this is an old thread but we are looking for the location of the Canvas Admin setting to restrict use of Canvas Inbox. Can anyone please help? We have looked at the available sub account settings and aren't seeing this as an option.

Hi @arovner,

Would you like to prevent students in a class from messaging each other, as the original poster of this thread was, or would you like to do something different?

Disabling students from messaging each other would be in your account -> permissions area on the course roles tab.  The relevant rows there would be "Conversations - send messages to individual course members" and "Conversations - send messages to entire class."

If you'd like something other than this, please describe your goal(s) and community members here can try to offer some suggestions.
