Yes, yes you can! You would create and attach a grading rubric set to use a range of scores.

I don’t need a range of scores, I need a range of dates. I also want the discussion to pop up on calendar.

In your question you stated, "discussions that are graded with a range". So please forgive my confusion.

Graded discussion are already added to the course calendar, so I guess I am not understanding what you mean by a "range of dates".

• Do  you want your discussions due for some students on one date, while for others it is a different date? These guides would help you do that: How do I assign a graded discussion to an individual student? , How do I assign a graded discussion to a course group? , and How do I assign a graded discussion to a course section? 
• Or, do you want to be able to do something along the lines of grade the students' original posts, then grade the students' classmate replies and have Canvas show both due dates? If so, Canvas cannot do that, but there is a feature idea open for voting that you might want to support at https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/1555-multiple-due-dates-checkpoints-for-discussions 
• Or, do you want to create a single discussion that will be used for multiple discussion topics throughout the term, and you want to grade each topic individually? If so, then Canvas also cannot do that. Sorry for misunderstanding. Our discussions are open for a week. I would like to have a calendar entry for the start date, but the due date is 6 days later. That’s why I am looking for ideas. Maybe I could post a calendar event for the open date, then the due date will also pop up.

I also use two due dates for my discussions, but only one displays. I do exactly what you propose - create a calendar event for one date, then the final due date.  I created a grading rubric so that I can score the two parts of my discussions.
