[ARCHIVED] Notifications for announcements

Students have been asking me why they don't get notifications for announcements.  THey only get 'notifications' for messages and calendar changes and if new assignment or content added.  But none for announcements.

Most likely it is because they have not set their Notification preferences correctly.

Thanks, but if you notice in the CANVAS notifications preferences documents, ONLY observers and instructors can get notifications to announcements.

 @hoesterj ‌, please refer to the Notifications Defaults list on the first page of the Canvas Notifications PDF to which Kelley linked. The default for all users for announcement notifications is "Notify me right away."

I don't see anything in that document that states that only observers and instructors can receive notifications for course announcements. Could you specify where that appears?

See the bottom of the pdf document you just sent regarding the observer role. A few of my students are going to show me Thursday what they are able to check off as far as notifications so I can take a picture of their screen.

 @hoesterj , the last page of the document is about notifications for recordings in Conferences, and the bottom of the first page is about Observers, not Students, so I guess I'm not looking in the right spot.

Strictly anecdotally speaking, I used Announcements liberally when I was teaching, and students who had enabled notifications for them always received the notifications of new announcements in their email.
