[ARCHIVED] Zoom information

Hi,

This might be a silly question, but assuming we have zoom already integrated into Canvas (happened before I got here), where would we get the zoom information in order to connect zoom and Studio? Can it be retrieved from the zoom LTI entry? Do we need to contact zoom?

I would talk to your Distance Learning Department which may be couched inside the IT department. I would start there for that information.

@sylvia_sotomayo  I am guessing you mean the new integration discussed here:  Studio Release Notes (2022-01-03) - Instructure Community

You need the person who is your Zoom admin to pull that information from Zoom's admin console.

@nwilson7 is correct, connecting your organization's Zoom account to Studio is going to be the responsibility of your admins. This is likely some that your local IT can assist with.

Has anyone had any issues with zoombombing. We are are concerned that with our courses using the Zoom Lti in Canvas could mean that a student could pass the meeting link to another person who is not on the course? Not sure how much of a risk this is but we have quite sensitive content.

I have not had a problem with zoom bombing in my classes.  However, you can always set it up where everyone goes into a waiting room and must be admitted (not realistic for huge classes).  The other option is the "only authenticated users can join option" - I have never used that option and in my course it lists some specific areas of the university.  So I do not know if that is an option - talk to your LMS support people to find out if they know.

There is no way to keep students who have the link from giving it to someone else.  I think the authenticated users only option is about your only hope (i.e. if by selecting it, only people in the class can join).

Goes without saying, but use a password for the meeting as well.

@NeillThompson I will second what @Ron_Bowman suggested with using the"only authenticated users can join" as this helps with tracking and if you ever want to use pre-assigned breakout rooms, this is the only way to ensure it works. 

We did have a zoombomber and are pretty sure a student shared the link to his friends at another university.  This is why we use the "only authenticated users can join" now.  Funny though as the students were not super tech savvy and Zoom tracked their login from their university and I was able to tell exactly who the Zoombombers were even though they thought they were being creative with "funny" names.
