Our Canvas system is using real time integration with our Banner SIS system. When a student drops a course, it seems that they are completely deleted from the course they dropped from. I am wondering if there is any way, after the student is dropped, that we can find what work they did complete, and what their grades were for the their completed work before they were dropped?
Also, being that we are using real time integration, is there any way to prevent a student from being deleted from the course completely, and maybe just be set to "inactive" instead?
Thanks!

@James Jones answered this pretty well here. We have had no problem re-adding the students and retrieving their course activity as long as they have not been removed as users from Canvas. We do not use "inactive", but yes, you could have the status changed instead of deleting them when your process runs against Banner.
If the user is removed from Canvas, then it is my understanding that the data is gone.

Thank you @rjw125 ! Your note about re-adding the student did the trick for us. I added the student back into the course temporarily, exported all of her grades, and then removed her from the course.
I do have a open Canvas support ticket asking how we can edit our integration to not drop the student from the course, but just conclude them instead. I will update this ticket with whatever I find out.
Hi Jeff,
I'm not sure how the Banner SIS Integration works as my institution uses another SIS and a custom integration that I have written between the two systems.
In the #gradebook have you checked to see if you see the students grades by looking in the concluded enrollments or inactive enrollments?
I know when we drop a student from any course we mark them as #inactive instead of completely deleting them from the course. This allows us to still be able to see everything the student has done up until they dropped the course. I am not sure if there is a way to set that parameter within the Banner Integration, but Canvas does have a way to not completely remove the student and their course work from the course upon them dropping the course.
Thank you for the reply @bneporadny . This doesn't work for us because our SIS is actually deleting the student from course, not "concluding" them. I did find from @rjw125 's reply above that if we add the student back into the course, we can export all of her grades, and then remove her from the course again.
