Turning discussion "Likes" into leaderboard points

Hey, an idea occurred to me as I've been reading posts here and maybe somebody figured out a way that this can be done.

Is there way that the Likes a student can receive in the class discussions can be turned into points that feed into their profile. This would be a great way to gamify discussions while - hopefully- upping the quality level of student posts.

Any ideas?

This would be a nifty feature, danklosterman! I've shared your question with the Gamification​ group; maybe someone there has done this.

I haven't used this, but when you edit the discussion activity and select "Allow liking" you will see two more options appear below it.  One of those options is "Sort by likes."  This might do the trick.  If anyone else has tried this, please chime it.
