Canvas Notifications on Mac Mail App

I used to get notifications from Canvas, but ever since I started using the Mail App (blue with white envelope in the middle) on my Mac, I stopped getting notifications. I stopped using the Mail App, but I still don't get any notifications. Any suggestions on how to get notifications back?
