Currently, in Instructor/Teacher view, the gradebook uses colors to indicate the status of assignments for students (Late, Missing, Dropped grade, Excused, etc.). There is no legend on the gradebook or indeed, anywhere other than the support page, to indicate what those colors mean. Users often have no idea what those colors mean - sometimes even if they click to open the sidebar and see the status. More importantly, from an accessibility standpoint, color should never be the only indicator of information, but that is precisely what is happening here.
Solution 1: Include a legend that informs users what the icon colors mean. Solution 2: Include an icon that represents each state, show tooltip on hover.
