Allow individual extension for a student in an assignment

Individual students often need a few more days to complete an assignment (not a quiz) and currently there is no way to grant individuals extensions to the deadline without affecting the whole class.

We need to be able to select an individual in an assignment and give them an extension of n=X days before their submission gets marked as late.

That is what I was told. They would have to move you to a different section within the actual course. That is the current only workaround.

I love this feature in quizzes, but it needs to be available for assignments also!

I have been thinking for a long time that it would be great for assignments to have similar moderation options to quizzes.

This can be a critical feature for special needs accommodations.  It's one very important way to meet the accessibility needs -- along with the same feature for quizzes.

That is one of the main reasons for this functionality to be implemented. Creating a new section for one or two students must be burdensome on faculty.

Thank you for your feedback. We have a developers currently working on this selective release to individuals.  You should see something deploy to beta in the next couple of releases. We are excited to finally roll out this feature!

Thank you Scott for the rapid response and deployment! That makes it easier.

Some concerns that were voiced in the past were:

-If a due date was changed for a few/individual students then sometimes the entire class would be notified via the Canvas notifications (whether it automatically notified them in the nightly summary email, or when an assignment or due date was changed), then it would cause confusion with lots of emails from students for whom it does not apply to.

-If in the release notes/updates/user guide/quick start guide could be updated for instructors for this new feature for assignments, discussions, quizzes and assignment it would make it less confusing and less cumbersome for it to be implemented on the end user. It may be useful for a tutorial and an updated quiz moderation tutorial.
