Canvas recently added the timer function to announcements. This is a function instructors have requested for many years.
The problem with the new timer is once the announcement "closes" or "times out" it is removed from the student's view and is removed from the student's home page but not the instructors. The old announcements hang out on my home page. I then need to switch to student view to constantly check my students do not have access any longer.
I have contacted Canvas support (via Canvas and through my college IT) and was informed this was a "glitch". That was in August. Still dealing with this (it is almost October) I reached out again this week. I was informed it is not a "glitch" but intentional.
I do not understand what purpose old/closed student announcements remaining on the homepage for instructors serves? The only way around this is to go back in and postpone the start of the old announcement past the time the class ends. This will then remove the announcement from my home page. However, this is more busy work and silly when I have already set the timer to close out the announcement.
Remove the announcement from the instructor's home page when the timer closes the announcement out.
