It is possible to set an assignment with a due date after the section, term or course date without receiving a warning, and for a student to fail to submit before the section, term, or course date. The impact in both cases is that the student will see the assignment, but the submit button is hidden. No further information appears to guide the student, teacher, admin or support team as to why the submit button does not appear. The most vulnerable students, on long term extensions, mitigations or intermission are most likely to be affected.
1) When adding an assignment due date which is beyond the section, term, or course date, display a warning to the user who is adding or updating the due date and guiding them to the appropriate settings 2) Where a student accesses an assignment where the due date is current or future, and the submit button is hidden because the section, term or course date is in the past, display a warning box in the same position as the submit button identifying the issue and advising that they contact their teacher. Why - to account for human fallibility in entering due dates and managing section, term and course dates, and to provide clear problem solving information to students and those who support them with regards to a) a blocked assignment no longer being available for submission and b) why that assignment is no longer available.
