Currently, Canvas allows instructors to set an “Available From” date on assignments, which prevents students from viewing the assignment until a specified time. However, for long-term writing projects or semester-long research assignments, it would be beneficial to allow students to view the assignment details well in advance while still restricting their ability to submit.
Add a separate "Accept Submissions From" or "Viewable but Not Submittable" date for assignments. This feature would support students in understanding the final expectations and goals of a major project early on, helping them plan and scaffold their work accordingly. At the same time, restricting submissions would prevent premature uploads and ensure that students follow the intended timeline.
