[Credentials/Badges] Badging Outcomes in the Mastery Gradebook

Problem statement:

Canvas credentials lacks an integrated system for badging outcomes in the mastery gradebook representing mastery of competencies for students. These mastery outcomes will not count towards the student's grade on the assignment, but we want the ability to be more efficient representing and recognizing each student achievement to create a portfolio of competencies for our students with competency badges.

Proposed solution:

The proposed solution aims to enhance the assessment capabilities of the existing rubric system by adding the ability to badge each criteria (or row) on a rubric. This feature will facilitate more comprehensive grading, particularly for assignments that assess multiple competencies or standards. It will allow instructors to badge each competency separately, even if a student only achieves mastery in one area and not the other. Additionally, this feature will enable the badging of imported outcomes on a rubric, which will not count toward the grade but still require recognition.

Criteria Badging: Each criterion (row) in the rubric can be individually badged with an icon or label. Instructors can select from a predefined set of badges (e.g., "Mastery," "Proficient," "Developing," "Not Yet") or create custom badges to suit their grading scale. The badges will be visually represented next to or within each criterion row, making it easy to distinguish the level of achievement for each competency or standard.

Multiple Competencies Assessment: When an assignment assesses multiple competencies or standards, instructors can assign a badge to each criterion independently. This allows for more granular feedback, as students may excel in some areas while needing improvement in others. Each competency's performance can be recognized and recorded separately.

Imported Outcomes Badging: Outcomes that are imported into a rubric but do not directly contribute to the final grade can also be badged. Instructors can assign badges to these outcomes to acknowledge their importance without affecting the overall grading.
