[Discussions] Add Checkpoints To Group Discussions
The Canvas Discussions team has stated that group discussions do not work with the new Checkpoints feature. Many faculty want to be able to create checkpointed discussions with smaller numbers of participants rather than with the whole class. A number of users on this community site have emphasized that this is actually essential when using Canvas discussions with large lecture classes (i.e. courses with hundreds of students), and that consequently they cannot currently use the checkpoints feature even though they would very much like to. Faculty who teach smaller courses also want the ability to make even smaller groups (e.g. a checkpointed discussion for three to five students).
The Canvas Discussions team has stated that they are evaluating community interest in having the Checkpoints feature available for groups discussions. The purpose of posting this as an idea is quite simply to create a focused location on the community site for users to show additional support for this feature instead of searching the site for places where a user has posted support for the feature as a comment on a question or idea that is addressing a broader topic.
