[Enrollments] Add account role names in the User Profile under Enrollments

Problem statement:

I have a small request that would really help both Canvas coordinators, system owners and other admin involved in administering account roles in Canvas. User profiles include enrollments in both courses and accounts (https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Admin-Guide/How-do-I-use-the-People-page-in-an-account/ta-p/105). The role name shown for each course enrollment in the user's profile is incredibly helpful (for example "Teacher"), but for account roles there is no role name included.

So in order to find out which role -- and if there are multiple roles -- the person has in one account, you have to

  1. click the account/sub-account name
  2. click "Settings" in the account's/sub-account's menu
  3. click the Admin tab
  4. find the person in the list of account admins to see their account role name
  5. often search for their name in the browser to see if they have more than one account role in that account/sub-account (since there are often very many account admins in certain sub-accounts and the list is long an non-alphabetical).

So a very tedious and boring process when one is changing, updating, reviewing, adding or deleting account roles.

Proposed solution:

1) To save time and prevent errors in access/permission levels the account role name should be included under the account name in Enrollments on users' profile pages. In addition, if a person has multiple roles in the same account then both account role names need to be included here. 2) Also to save time and prevent errors in access/permission levels: please alphabetize the list of people with account roles in the Admin tab in the account's Settings page. Alternatively you could group the list in the Admin tab according to account roles and permission levels.

For example, the account role with the highest permission levels is at the top: Account Admin Name 1 Name 2 Administrator (the account role with the next-highest permission level) Name 3 Name 4 Name 5 Name 6 And so forth, with the account role and people with the lowest permission level coming last.

User role(s):

admin

Was not able to format the text or add a picture when I posted the idea. So here is a screenshot of where I mean the account role names need to appear.

In addition, here is (hopefully, if I am allowed to add line shifts now :)) a better way to visualize my suggestion in solution #2 (grouping the account roles in the Admin tab):

The account role with the highest permission levels is at the top:

Account Admin

  • Name 1
  • Name 2

Administrator (the account role with the next-highest permission level)

  • Name 3
  • Name 4
  • Name 5
  • Name 6

And so forth, with the account role with the lowest permission level coming last. But no need to include the account roles where no people have that role in that account.
