[Files] Hide Left-Hand Pane

Problem statement:

The files viewpane has been set up in such a way that it is nearly impossible to see the actual data about the files. I use Canvas on a Mac desktop and laptop. The viewing space has been getting smaller and smaller; now when I click on "Files" I get a pane on the left that contains nothing useful, and I can't seem to get rid of it. And now there is a huge amount of white space between the left margin and the actual text. As a result, the names of the files are not even visible. It is basically impossible to view the filenames.

Proposed solution:

Make it possible to hide the left-hand pane (whatever it is). Remove all the empty space in the viewpane.
