Students are often added to classes throughout the school year. In our classes (PE) we organize students in roll call and give them numbers. Each time a new student is added in Canvas, they are added alphabetically. This means we have to constantly shift our student roll call order and their numbering or risk entering the wrong data for a student in the gradebook. Other gradebooks our district used in the past allowed us to reorder/drag names to any order we chose. This is also helpful when we have to move students for discipline issues. Again, it makes it more complicated when entering grades from our paperwork to Canvas gradebook when the order does not match.
Please add the functionality of dragging/reordering names as they appear in the gradebook. We have this feature with assignment order, we can click and hold and drag the assignment left and right. Adding this feature is helpful when teachers have to reorder their students not in alpha order due to new additions or moving students for discipline issues or better support in class. PE classes are often use numbering systems to deal with student data collection and grade calculations and as students add and drop, numbers need to change since Canvas gradebook defaults to alphabetical order and does not allow us to manual reorder.
