I just finished a conversation with Canvas Helpdesk folks in which I learned that even when I have a gradebook filtered to a specific grading period and I ask for a current view gradebook, the assignment category grades are NOT the grading period filtered but the whole year. This makes the grading period assignment categories fundamentally useless except for the first grading period, quarter 1.
Please just have the exported gradebook’s assignment category numbers match what the teacher and student see when they filter for the correct grading period. The current status where the student/teacher see one average and the gradebook export doesn’t match it feels illogical to me. I use the gradebook exports to build quarter comments for all my students, and I can’t use them for assignment categories in their present state. If I want those numbers, I have to hand type them in, so I won’t be using them for now - resulting in less information for the students and parents in the report cards.
