Students are seeing 0's in the gradebook when they have submitted something that needs to be graded. Instructor's see an assignment icon. Students panic at seeing the 0.
Recommended solution: Provide icons that are visible whether student, instructor, or TA - Pending grading (a paper with a check icon) - Submitted assignment (a paper with envelop/inbox icon) - In progress (a paper with clock icon) All of these would show either in the gradebook for instructors or in the grades area for students. This would create transparency with grading for both parties. Note: I recommended the pending grading icon. This idea was built on by UHD_AdminNickM with the other two recommendations.
