At any given time, the amount of the gradebook window that is taken up by headings, menus, settings, filters, etc is 30% to 50% of the screen, which requires a user to scroll up and down multiple times to see the full list of students. It seems silly to use up so much screen space on menus, when what I'm really there to do is enter or view grades. I'm using chrome.
Minimize the "stuff" at the top (course title, including a line with a bunch of blank space surrounding it; the gradebook view menu, the search bars, and the filters).
