[Gradebook Settings] Late Grade: Add a Weekly Percentage Deduction

Many schools' academic policies are defined so that student grades are reduced based on weeks

For example, our current academic policy is that students will receive a score reduction of -10% if it is turned in within a two-week window after the due date, and then it switches to -30% after that period, again per week.

The current Automatic Late Deduction tool in Gradebook is not useful as it only deducts grades per hour or day. Please add an additional feature that allows a user to:

  • select weeks, hours, or days
  • input the number of weeks, hours, or days that the policy is in effect

Problem statement:

The Grades page allows for point deductions for assignments submitted past the due date under the Late Policies; however, the only way to use this feature is if the school utilizes deduction percentages per day or hour or if all assignments receive a specific grade if submitted late (i.e, 0 points for late submissions). This feature is moot when the school's late policy doesn't account for late penalties per day or hour, but a specific duration (e.g., one week, two weeks, etc.).

Proposed solution:

There are two proposed solutions: 1. Add a dropdown to the Deduction Interval on the Late Policies within the Gradebook to allow for more than "Day" or "Hour". Adding "Week" would allow for institutions that have late policies per week. 2. Create something like "Fudge Points" for Assignments and Discussions like on Quizzes that allow teachers to deduct points based on late submissions. This would allow a faculty member to have more control per assignment than the standard percentage per day or hour as allowed through the Late Policies setting in the Gradebook.

Problem statement:

There aren't enough options in regard to gradebook settings for late work submission--daily and hourly are not useable for many asynchronous/diverse educational institution schedules.

Proposed solution:

It would be helpful to have more options in regard to gradebook settings for late work submission--daily and hourly are not useable for many asynchronous/diverse educational institution schedules. I would like to see options in the gradebook settings: * Weekly * Monthly * Include- or Exclude- Weekends
