[Gradebook Setttings] Minimum pass mark for the activity(ies)

Need

The canvas gradebook should incorporate an automatic minimum grade requirement for certain activities and/or groups of activities in order to be able to pass a set of activities. 

We have found, surfing through the community, some things that are close to our need but do not give the definitive solution, for this reason we demand that there should be an additional field in the configuration of the activities and/or group of activities that allows us to define the minimum grade to pass the activity in question. 

At the same time, this would apply the corresponding logic in the gradebook to calculate the final grade. 

For example, if we get less than a 4 in an activity and this means that the course is not passed, the gradebook should act in this way in its grading. As it is currently done in how it is calculated, the average grade can be passed. 

Why

The reason for this is that in many cases, although the student has failed because he/she has not exceeded the established average, Canvas calculates him/her as a pass because this is the natural way of calculating the average mark. And it makes the calculation independently of the minimum pass mark. 

Activities or groups of activities can sometimes be grouped according to their importance. If a student does not pass some activities or group of activities, it is considered that he/she has not acquired the minimum knowledge and therefore cannot pass the subject. 

We know that there is an override column among several other options, but it does not work for a set of activities. And therefore it does not solve the problem of the groups of activities, only of the final mark, which would also have to be manual and different from the natural weighting of canvas. This leads to confusion for the student. 

Advantages

This would make the calculation of grades much more realistic. 

It would be adapted to the pedagogical needs of the different institutions. 

The student would see his or her mark clearly and it would not have to be modified by the professor. 

There would be more transparency in grading and the totals would not have to be hidden from the students to avoid confusion.

Necesidad: 

Que el gradebook de canvas incorpore  un comportamiento automático de nota mínima en algunas actividades determinadas y/o grupos de actividades  para poder aprobar un conjunto de actividades. 

Hemos encontrado, navegando por la comunidad, algunas cosas que se aproximan a nuestra necesidad pero no dan con la  solución definitiva.Es por eso que demandamos que exista un campo adicional en la configuración de las actividades y/o grupo de actividades que permita definir la nota mínima para aprobar dicha actividad. 

Y que esta a su vez aplique la lógica correspondiente en el gradebook para calcular la nota final. 

Si por ejemplo si sacamos menos de un 4 en una actividad y eso significa que la asignatura no queda aprobada, que así actúe el gradebook en su ponderación. Ya que actualmente tal y como pondera, la media puede salir aprobada. 

¿Por qué?

Nos encontramos con esta demanda pues en muchos casos, aunque el alumno esté suspendido porque no ha superado la media establecida, canvas lo pondera como aprobado pues su manera natural de calcular la nota media es así. Y él hace cálculo independientemente de la nota mínima para aprobar. 

Las actividades o grupos de actividades a veces se pueden agrupar en función de su importancia. Si un alumno no aprueba algunas actividades o grupo de actividades, se considera que no ha adquirido los conocimientos mínimos y por tanto no puede aprobar la asignatura. 

Sabemos que existe la columna anular entre otras varias opciones, pero esta no sirve para un conjunto de actividades. Y por tanto no soluciona el problema de los grupos de actividades, sólo de la nota final que además tendría que ser manual y diferente a la ponderación natural de canvas. Lo que lleva a confusiones por parte del alumno. 

Ventajas

De esta manera el cálculo de las notas sería mucho más realista. 

Se adaptaría a las necesidades pedagógicas de la Universidad. 

El alumno vería clara su nota y no debería ser modificada por el profesor. 

Habría más transparencia a la hora de ponderar y no como ahora que se ocultan los totales para no crear confusiones a los alumnos.
