Especially in large courses, some teachers prefer to hide the overview of all course members. They therefore do not activate the “People” in the course. However, if you want to use groups with self-enrolment, you are forced to make the “persons” visible to all students.
Please remove self-enrollment in groups from the general overview of all course participants. Either by making group management a separate navigation item in the course navigation that can be toggled on and off. Or by making it possible for teachers to choose whether they want students to see the overview or only the group management options, e.g. self-registration and the creation of their own student groups.
