I agree with this submission: [New Analytics] course activity report - increasing data collected from 30 days to 3 months. Status: Open Submitted by Catman1 on 04-30-2025 06:21 PM And I want to add: There are two problems, as I see it: 1. The name of the report is misleading at best and simply wrong at worst. 2. The 30 day limit seems arbitrary and ruins an otherwise very useful report. Here's what I mean: I, too, have a problem with New Analytics / Reports / Course Activity Report. I ran the report earlier this week. I planned to use the report spreadsheet to assign participation grades. Specifically looking at each students' engagement with Modules. Some students, for example, wrote an essay base on a case I posted in Modules. However, the report shows they never reviewed that case in Modules. So I gave students grades accordingly and posted them to USAonline. Then, upon closer inspection of the spreadsheet, the "First Viewed" date is no older than 6/22/25. So obviously, the title of the report needs to change. Because it is not "Course Activity". It's "Past Month Activity". That is very misleading. Especially for online courses, where engagement is important, this report serves a very important role. Instructors need to know if students are not engaging with the material. It appears that the Course Activity Report only logs activity for the past 30 days. See https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-view-and-download-reports-in-New-Analyt.... This does not make sense as the student data is still in the system. Student activity data can still be obtained by clicking New Analytics, Students, then click on a single student, then click "Weekly Online Activity" and then click each blue dot (representing one week) to see activity during that week date range. But instructors simply cannot do that for each and every student. Especially if the class size is over 30 students.
1. The name of the "Course Activity Report" is misleading and either the report needs to be fixed or the name needs to change to "Past Month Activity Report". 2. Fix the report to include the full course activity. The 30 day limit seems arbitrary and ruins an otherwise very useful report.
