[New Quizzes] Disabling auto-grading for quizzes that are submitted after the due date
Many institutions have late policies for assignments, discussions, and quizzes. These late policies are unique for the institution and encourage students to submit work by the due date. For assignments and discussions that must be manually graded and quizzes that contain at least 1 manual graded question, the faculty member can assess the student's work and apply the institution's late policy prior to posting the grade; however, for quizzes that have all auto-graded questions, the student sees the earned grade prior to the faculty member applying the late policy. This is problematic as the student sees a higher grade and then, a reduction. Regardless of the communication between the student and faculty member, this causes alarm and confusion for the student.
It would be incredibly helpful if there was a setting in quizzes that would allow institutions and/or faculty to disable the auto-submit feature of the quiz if it is submitted beyond the due date, so that faculty could review the quiz and the late details prior to posting a student's grade.
Please note: I understand that the Grades page allows me to change the Grade Posting Policy from automatic to manual. This workaround does work if the faculty member goes into the quiz after the due date, and changes the quiz's settings for the Grade Posting Policy from automatic to manual. This would disable the students from seeing the auto-graded quiz score. Then, the faculty can apply the late policy to the quiz and post the grades for the students to see; however, there are multiple manual steps to ensure this workaround is functional and students are provided their grades.
