While in the stem of a fill in the blank question, it allows you to use the equation editor but if you put something from the equation editor in backticks to make it a response, it will now allow the input to register as a fill in the blank. This is a problem in many mid-high level math classes where fractional answers are required especially for fractions that would be repeating decimals. For example, I want to be able to use the equation editor to type in the math problem five and two-thirds divided by one and one-half and have students be able to type in 34/9 as a fraction or 3 and seven-ninths and not have to use the back slash to put their answer but have the ability to use the equation editor to be able to input it formatted as a fraction or mixed number.
Program fill in the blank questions to accept an input in the backticks from the equation editor, add the equation editor to be used in the Answer Type, Text Match, Correct Answers section, and allow students to use the equation editor for inputting their response on fill in the blank. Allowing this function will allow teachers to better assess student answers through fill in the blank and inputs that would more closely align to options given in state testing platforms for students.
