We have recently noticed some concerns regarding New Quizzes, specifically with the Item Banks. When a course using Item Banks in their New Quiz is copied to another shell, the Item Bank is still connected to the original course. We have courses that are used by entire educational departments, where the lead is in charge of the 'Master' course and copies it into their faculty shells to use. However, now, when faculty edit the quiz, it affects all other courses using the Item Bank, including the Master. It does not create a copy specifically for the course it is imported into and remains linked to the original bank course. When New Quizzes containing Item Banks are imported into a new shell, by default, the sharing/access permissions seem to only allow for the users in that shell to view the bank and not make any edits; however, this is not always ideal when faculty want to have the ability to modify the quizzes used in their course. However, when permissions are changed to allow users in that course to edit the bank, any edits will affect all other courses where the bank is used. We do not want our item banks to be linked between courses. This behavior is only with New Quizzes, and the assignments worked smoothly when using Question Banks in Classic Quizzes.
Configurations should be available so that instructors can prevent item banks from being linked to courses outside of the one in which they were created. If a course is imported into a different Canvas shell, edits to Item Banks should not affect all other locations of the quiz, including the course in which it was created.
