In Classic Quizzes, students can see when their responses have been saved recently so that they can ensure that all the answers are saved automatically while continuing writing. Recently, we had several students at our institution who experienced that their answers disappeared in New Quizzes when leaving and re-entering the quiz (it was quiz that was open for a couple of days). Since New Quizzes is lacking an indicator such as in Classic Quizzes, they couldn't save their text manually in an extern document, instead the whole answer(s) were lost.
Add an indicator as you already provide in Classic Quizzes, see a screenshot under "Submit quiz" at https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Student-Guide/How-do-I-take-a-quiz/ta-p/507 Add even a "Save manually" with feedback if content has been saved so that the students can ensure that their drafts are saved and that they can continue the quiz later on.
