I am using the mastery learning grade book and tying all my questions in assessments to the learning outcomes. Currently, if there is a series of questions on a learning target my choices are to average the responses, decay from the most recent score, weight from the most recent score, etc. I am trying not to average due to outliers, but I don't want the mastery to be determined by the most recent score, but rather a pattern of all responses. If a student demonstrates mastery on some questions, but in retakes or even on the same assessment, shows an inconsistent pattern, I don't want it to decay from the most recent score, but rather the highest score.
I would like an option to weight the highest score in comparison to previous or later attempts the same that is possible for the most recent score. This way students get credit for their highest level of mastery, but inconsistency is communicated by slightly reducing the mastery level score by a certain percentage based on how I weight the the highest score in comparison to the other attempts.
