Within a course, you can generate a .csv export of grades. As per usual with csv, all the data is put into the first cell of the row. In this case the data points are devided by comma's. Because our school works with O365, I open this file in Excel. To be able to work with the data, you want to convert 'text to columns'.
There are 3 steps to take: In the first step I choose 'Delimited' In the second step I choose the delimiter, in this case 'Comma' In the third step I set the column data format to 'general'. After these steps you hit 'finish' and then things go wrong. In Holland, we have a lot of people with a word in between the first and last name (for instance, my name is Karlijn van Anrooij). Names in the .CSV file are sepreated by comma's, just like all the other data points. With a name like mine, there is another column added to provide room for all the data. This means that data in rows 2 and onwards does not line up with data in row 1. Unfortunately I can't put in pictures or add a file, but i'm happy to provide one if necessary!
A solution would be (I think) to seperate data that comes from Canvas with a semicolon instead of a comma. This will ensure that people who don't use Google Sheets, but for instance Excel, can also use the export (and subsequently import) options.
