[Rich Content Editor] Embed New Quizzes into Canvas Pages

Problem statement:

Canvas lacks a built-in method to integrate Learning Checks directly within lesson pages. Learning Checks are quick self-assessments meant to blend seamlessly with the lesson flow, as opposed to navigating away from the current page to a quiz. Instructors often resort to third-party tools to embed quiz questions, leading to account setup, licensing costs, and security issues. Moreover, tracking student completion and responses isn't feasible without native integration. A common use case is to insert a brief assessment with one or a few questions (Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer, Matching, Ordering, etc.) directly onto a Canvas Page, allowing students to self-assess their learning without leaving the lesson.

Proposed solution:

Add a feature to enable instructors to embed New Quizzes directly into Pages (or other Canvas locations) using the Rich Content Editor.

  • This solution enhances student engagement, offers diverse assessment options, and ensures security and privacy.
  • This approach offers versatile assessment options with the many question types already available.
  • Seamlessly integrates assessments into lessons and maintains consistency as students and instructors are already familiar with the New Quiz format.
  • Leverages the New Quiz Engine for automated feedback and tracking completion or responses.
  • Additionally, this method simplifies course maintenance by allowing easy sharing and copying of embedded assessments among instructors and courses.
