As of right now with the FFT edition of canvas, there are only roles that either let you view the course in student view or teacher view. There is no role that allows users to view the course as a teacher without having elevated permissions such as having the ability to publish/unpublish modules, change grades and view assignment submissions, etc. I, like several other canvas users, am using the FFT edition of canvas right now, on top of a paid edition too at another school, and it gets quite frustrating when we have to make paraprofessionals or other support staff designers or TA's to have access to resources that we generally don't want students to have access to, especially because they have the ability to change course settings, publish and unpublish modules, and things like that and sometimes they do it on accident and don't even notice and it can mess things up when it comes to teaching the class.
It would allow support staff to have access to those resources in a view-only way without them having the ability to accidentally mess something up unintentionally. For example, they could still view all modules, both published and unpublished, however they don't have permission to actually change whether those are published or not. It also protects student privacy, and what I mean by that is their grades / assignment scores, submissions, etc. are all kept private and only teachers can view them, which is how several schools including my own, want it to be. Overall, this would benefit a lot of educators out there and would make a better canvas teaching experience.
