[SpeedGrader] Import scanned files with OCR recognition to find student names

Problem statement:

I do most major assessments (math) in the classroom on paper. I then scan the papers, load them into a OneNote class notebook, grade them there digitally, push out to student's subsection, and then manually enter grades on Canvas. There are a lot of steps involved with this (still better than paper grading), but it seems like the technology should be there to streamline this in Canvas.

Proposed solution:

I would like to be able to upload scanned pdf documents within a Canvas assignment, and have OCR technology locate and identify the student name from the document, so that the document is now available to me in Speedgrader to grade and the can be "returned" to the student as if it were their own uploaded document. Note that this is similar to what some apps (such as Gradescope) do, in importing the assignments and locating the student into. The technology clearly exists. More and more instructors are returning to proctored in-class paper & pencil assessments with the prevalence of generative AI used in unsupervised environments. This seems like a small step to facilitate both instructor workflow and student access to feedback and graded assignment. Could even allow the assignment to be re-submitted for a case of "test corrections"!
