Our university has already inconvenienced hundreds of faculty and students by shifting us from Blackboard. We ALL had to get training to accommodate your browser and learn ALL the ins and outs of a complex system. Now that we have spent months of time learning it, I can't even get the exams I created to load from my Safari browser. Instead, you tell us to use Chrome. Now you are pushing Google Chrome which invades our privacy at every turn and works with the Chinese government. What a joke. MAKE IT HAPPEN, CANVAS. Get all Safari users onboard with the full program. If you must cut out something from your complex program, cut out something stupid not our access to downloading our exams. And tell the truth about the hours you show that our students have accessed our course website. Students who check the site by phone and tablet or visit a youtube video we posted are often not shown as having accessed our materials and that affects their grades.
Also, when I transfer all of my lectures and films from youtube, all I get is an ugly black screen, unlike with youtube where at least there is a small image on the screen that is inviting and encourages students to click on it. Several other glitches make it infuriating to faculty to have had all of our courses migrated to a new system that requires us to fix the glitches without any additional salary — days, weeks, months of reworking our courses.
Start with accommodating SAFARI immediately at whatever cost to your platform.
Canvas needs to accommodate Safari browsers that are close to your preferred operating systems. For Mac users we cannot get new Macs just to satisfy your ridiculous request that we have greater than 16.something. Make it happen CANVAS.
