Translation in the app

Hi, is it possible to find the translation function for Canvas in the app?

Hi @maria_lingaas,

Other than built-in menu items and settings, Canvas doesn't do any translation that I know of, whether it's in the app or on the web.  Some web browsers will offer to translate languages, but that's not actually part of Canvas itself.  Unfortunately, I don't think there will be a way to translate content from one language to another in the app automatically.  If you need contetn in a different language, I'd suggest reaching out to your teacher with the request, as they may be able to provide alternate versions of their content in different languages for you.

Hi Chris,

On the web there is the function "Advanced reader" i Canvas which, under "Reading preferences", offers a selection of languages for translation as well as a play function for listening to the text. But I find nothing similar in the app, hence my question.

Hi @maria_lingaas,

Thanks for the clarification.  The Immersive Reader is actually a 3rd party plugin-type tool from Microsoft (and is not universally available for all users at all Canvas schools/institutions).  I don't see a specific note on whether or not this will ever come to the mobile apps, but since its a 3rd party tool, it's likely challenging to add to mobile.  You could definitely submit this as an idea you'd like Instructure to consider adding though if it's important to you.

Ok, I see! Thank you for your quick and thorough answer. I will consider submitting it as an idea. I don't need it myself but I think that some of my students would benefit from it.
